What are some of the current issues which should concern me as a property owner?
Recent revaluations of coastal properties have led to what can only be called
unbelievable property tax increases and unprecedented government spending.
The budget for Okaloosa County has increased by over 60% in the last three years.
Walton County has matched this spending frenzy.
Additionally, the entire state of Florida is in the midst of a property insurance crisis.
Windstorm insurance premiums have more than doubled this year, and higher
insurance costs are expected next year.
Property values have also been impacted by increased interest rates, stagnant rental
revenues, an unusually high number of properties for sale, and the media’s hurricane
coverage ― resulting in the equivalent of “the perfect storm.”
How can Coastal Property Owners Association help me?
CPOA will develop viable strategies that provide for rational growth with sustainable
levels of government services and appropriate financing from a long-term economic
perspective. We will present preferable planning alternatives and give counsel
and assistance to both public leaders and service providers, and we will monitor
their responses. CPOA will regularly communicate our findings and recommend
specific, helpful actions to protect your interests.
We will develop and continually update our members-only interactive forum, where
you and fellow members can gain information, share ideas, and offer advice useful
to one another.
How is my $300 annual membership fee used?
Member fees provide for research of equitable tax solutions, identification of
governmental funding alternatives, examination of insurance options, continued
development of our website as an interactive forum for member ideas, research
for important articles and publications on key issues, proactive investigation of
proposed legislative and regulatory changes, legal counsel, member publications
and mailings, and other expenses of the association.
