Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are some of the current issues which should concern me as a property owner?

Recent revaluations of coastal properties have led to what can only be called unbelievable property tax increases and unprecedented government spending.  The budget for Okaloosa County has increased by over 60% in the last three years.  Walton County has matched this spending frenzy.

Additionally, the entire state of Florida is in the midst of a property insurance crisis. Windstorm insurance premiums have more than doubled this year, and higher insurance costs are expected next year.

Property values have also been impacted by increased interest rates, stagnant rental revenues, an unusually high number of properties for sale, and the media’s hurricane coverage ― resulting in the equivalent of “the perfect storm.”

How can Coastal Property Owners Association help me?

CPOA will develop viable strategies that provide for rational growth with sustainable levels of government services and appropriate financing from a long-term economic perspective. We will present preferable planning alternatives and give counsel and assistance to both public leaders and service providers, and we will monitor their responses. CPOA will regularly communicate our findings and recommend specific, helpful actions to protect your interests.

We will develop and continually update our members-only interactive forum, where you and fellow members can gain information, share ideas, and offer advice useful to one another.

How is my $300 annual membership fee used?

Member fees provide for research of equitable tax solutions, identification of governmental funding alternatives, examination of insurance options, continued development of our website as an interactive forum for member ideas, research for important articles and publications on key issues, proactive investigation of proposed legislative and regulatory changes, legal counsel, member publications and mailings, and other expenses of the association.
